What is Ear Acupuncture?

The outer ear (the auricle) contains a map of the whole body.

Ear acupuncture, also called auriculotherapy, speaks directly to the body's natural healing system by working with specific points on the auricle surface. This is done through the use of acupuncture "needles" that are more like thin filaments. Acupuncture invites the body to release what it has held — pain, tension, grief, imbalance — and find its natural state of ease.

Needle size comparison

Most ear acupuncture needles are the size of filaments, about 2 times the thickness of a human hair and significantly smaller than needles used for blood draws.

During treatments, some patients feel nothing while others may feel mild discomfort, light-headedness, or other non-specific sensations that pass with time. The condition being treated may show improvement during the session or delayed improvement slowly over weeks, depending on the individual.
