Calm, relaxation, and emotional well-being

The NADA Protocol, also known as Acudetox, is short for National Acupuncture Detoxification Association Protocol. It is a non-verbal, patient-centered, and specific ear acupuncture technique originally designed to support detoxification and recovery from addiction. The idea behind Acudetox is that ear acupuncture points (see photo left) are connected to various systems and organs in the body. Stimulating them with acupuncture can help balance energy and promote healing and overall well-being. Ideally, NADA is done in a group setting of 2-12 people.

Acudetox was first developed as a part of a broader treatment plan in addiction recovery in the 1970’s and is based on ancient wisdom from China that is thousands of years old. The points in the NADA protocol are also used to support individuals dealing with stress, anxiety, and various other conditions. In fact, Acupuncturists Without Boarders uses these same points to treat victims of tragedies and natural disasters around the world. This treatment is normally given in a groups of 2-12 individuals.
The NADA protocol involves the insertion of very fine needles, like filaments, into five specific points on the ear (see photo left):
-
Shen Men: Known as the "Spirit Gate," it is thought to help with relaxation and anxiety.
-
Sympathetic (also known as Autonomic): Aimed at calming the nervous system and reducing stress.
-
Kidney: Associated with detoxification and the body's ability to cleanse itself.
-
Liver: Linked to detoxification and the processing of emotions.
-
Lung: Believed to support overall immune function and help with breathing.
The protocol is used in various settings, including addiction treatment centers, mental health clinics, and wellness programs. It is often part of a comprehensive treatment plan and is typically administered in group settings to provide supportive community and enhance therapeutic effects. The NADA Protocol is valued for its non-pharmacological approach and its potential to help manage withdrawal symptoms and reduce cravings during the recovery process. It promotes feelings of calm, relaxation, and emotional well-being.
